Yes, In all these pictures we are all holding our hands up… How typical of us. It was my sisters birthday at the beginning of February and for her birthday she insisted that we climb Mount Everest, I mean Mount Warning as a family! It is 4km to the summit and 4km down.
We woke up at 3:45am hoping to get to the carpark at 4:45am so we could get the sunrise but to start off the morning we got lost which let me tell you, was very easy to do. So we drove an hour and a half past where we were needing to go so we turned back and ended up in the carpark around 6am which meant we had missed the sunrise! So anyway we started the walk and within 30-45 mins we were almost half way up. It was such a difficult walk, I could not believe it! None of us were expecting it, we are all quite fit but it was a big surprise because it just felt like a never ending walk.
1 hour and 30 mins down, 400metres to summit. We were 400metres off the summit and then there became this chain you had to hold onto and climb up the rock face which lead up to the summit. This was the most challenging but fun part of the walk. It took us about 20minutes to climb up the chain and reach the summit. We arrived and disappointingly there was no view! It was all clouded over.
It was a big relief once we got to the bottom, we all had incredibly sore legs. I do recommend climbing mount warning just make sure you go on a clear day so you are guaranteed a view otherwise its a big walk for nothing.
Time it will take: Approx. 4 hours depending on level of fitness and how many breaks you have.
